Abstract
This chapter outlines three main contributions of HBCU museums: as educational spaces, as spaces that shape identity, and as community-building spaces. The author discusses the benefits of HBCU museums for students, faculty, and administrators. Discussion of the possibilities for identity development and the active engagement of these institutions is also included. In evaluating several HBCU museums and their ability to create meaningful visitor experiences, this chapter includes suggestions for future research.
