Laboratory at Home: Science Instruction During COVID-19

Abstract

Every course has elements that make it special. These special qualities can be due to the personality of the teacher, atmosphere of the school, set up of the class, or more. Science classes are one of the only courses to provide students with laboratory activities. These activities are often hands-on and done under teacher supervision. However, when COVID-19 forced learning to go virtual, providing laboratory activities to students became one of the biggest challenges. This chapter will provide an overview on the purpose of laboratory activities, how labs were changed to accommodate virtual learning, and the challenges educators faced when making these changes.
