Description & Coverage
Description:

In the evolving environment of energy extraction, the conventional mindset that prioritizes profitability at the expense of safety and environmental concerns is becoming increasingly obsolete. The outdated dichotomy between economic gains and ecological responsibility not only risks environmental incidents but also undermines corporate standing and shared values. With stringent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements and energy transition imperatives, oil and gas operators in unconventional Fields face the challenge of navigating a web of compliance and sustainability mandates. There is a need for a paradigm shift, a comprehensive framework that integrates profitability, technological efficacy, and ecological compatibility for the sustainable exploration, development, and operation of unconventional oil and gas fields.

Sustainability Applied to Unconventional Oil and Gas Field Exploration and Development, is a groundbreaking book designed to usher in this paradigm shift. This work presents a robust life cycle concept, offering a holistic framework that not only breaks free from the archaic mindset but also propels the industry towards a future where profitability and environmental responsibility are inseparable. The book provides oil and gas operators and the scientific community with a consultative source, delving into specific technologies that promote the swift implementation of economically profitable, technically effective, and ecologically compatible measures. By encouraging problem-solving discussions among stakeholders, including R & D teams, communities, and regulatory bodies, the book envisions a collaborative approach that benefits company stakeholders, local communities, and society at large without compromising the business's bottom line.

This transformative work is tailored for oil and gas operators in unconventional fields, development and research teams, governmental entities, and graduate and undergraduate students of petroleum engineering and earth sciences. Governmental regulators and product and service companies are also invited to join this journey. Within these pages, readers will find insights into the exploration, development, and operation of unconventional oil and gas fields, technological innovations, sustainable development, circular economy applications, energy transition, climate change, field cases of sustainable exploration, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and Health Safety and Environment (HSE).

He has extensive desk and field experience and has covered managerial and C-level positions. With this industry acumen he initiated and completed a few research projects, including one funded by the World Bank, related to the Exploration of Unconventional Resources. He has authored and co-authored several papers presented in International Conferences of the SPE – Society of Petroleum Engineers, and scientific Journals covering topics of Exploration, Reservoir Engineering, EOR, Artificial Lift, IOT/AI based Production Optimization and Operations, ESPs, Artificial Intelligence, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Effective Introduction of Innovations and New Technology and Performance Oriented Contracts and Sustainable Development. He gives industry courses as Visiting Instructor at the Oklahoma University Norman and is Professor at the National University of Engineering, Faculty of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Engineering of Peru. He graduated at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and covered a post- doctoral in the TH Clausthal, both in Germany and holds multiple academic, research and industry awards
Susan Smith Nash has organized numerous workshops, forums, educational events and research conferences on the topic of unconventional resources in her capacity of Director of Education and Professional Development of the AAPG. In addition, she has worked with cross-disciplinary teams to work on knowledge transfer, understanding, and research initiatives in optimizing exploration and development of unconventional and mature reservoirs. Her current interests involve supporting new technologies for green development of unconventionals.
