Description & Coverage
Description:

This edited book is crucial due to the interdisciplinary nature of AI in education, the ethical concerns surrounding AI implementation, the necessity of student participation, the evolution of AI tools, and the potential risks associated with AI deployment (Williamson et al., 2023). This book addresses critical perspectives on AI in education, emphasizing the need for collaboration between learning scientists, computer scientists, and social scientists (Bartoletti, 2022). It delves into the ethical issues of bias, data use, and misuse in AI education tools (Khan, 2023), stresses the importance of student voices in AI system design and regulation (Brossi et al., 2022), and highlights the risks of AI perpetuating social divides and eroding human agency in education (Du Boulay, 2023). Ultimately, this edited book provides a comprehensive insight into AI’s impact on education, guiding educators and decision-makers on navigating the complexities of AI integration in educational settings.

The AI in education delves into the transformative potential of GenAI in educational settings, focusing on ethical challenges (Rizvi, 2023), personalized learning (Ashwini et al., 2023), prompt engineering (Huang, 2023), and real-world case studies (Gartner & Krašna, 2023). It integrates insights from AI technology, pedagogy, and ethics to offer a comprehensive view of GenAI's role in education, appealing to educators, technologists, policymakers, and researchers across disciplines (Adıgüzel et al., 2023). The book's interdisciplinary approach bridges educational technology, ethics, artificial intelligence, and research methodologies, inviting authors from various fields to contribute chapters aligning with the book's scope. It covers ethical dilemmas, teaching and learning, special education and personalized learning, prompt engineering and educational research, encouraging theoretical reviews, empirical studies, best practices, and case studies to cater to diverse disciplines.

The publication stands out by not only addressing the current state of GenAI in education but also by forecasting its future implications. It serves as a foundational text for understanding the complex dynamics between AI technology and educational methodologies, offering new perspectives on personalized education, the art of prompt engineering skills, and the role of GenAI in research. By featuring contributions from a diverse group of experts, including AI ethicists, educational technologists, and academic researchers, the book ensures a multifaceted discussion on the subject. It makes a significant contribution to the field by highlighting the ethical considerations that must guide the deployment of GenAI in education, showcasing innovative practices in teaching and learning, and outlining the future direction of educational research powered by AI.

I am writing this book because there is an emergent need in the educational sector to understand and navigate the integration of AI. The field has witnessed rapid advancements in AI, including generative AI, prompting a reevaluation of pedagogical practices, ethical considerations, and the overall impact on educational systems. While there is burgeoning interest and research in this area, there is a lack of comprehensive literature that synthesizes these aspects in a cohesive, accessible format. Existing literature often addresses these components in isolation, failing to provide a holistic view that educators, policymakers, and researchers require to make informed decisions in a fast-evolving landscape.
