This edited book will serve as a culminating resource of scholarship from authors globally that unpacks the ways in which technologies of all kinds are actively influencing and impacting post-secondary education internationally. The editor’s relationships with scholars globally, and across the MENA region specifically, will help bring together a myriad of voices whose research will help articulate an understanding of the status of technology in higher education and provide insights that lend themselves to foresight of how technology will benefit and guide higher education in the future. Of course, the caveats of technology will also be explored in this text to provide a well-rounded perspective.
This book is designed to offer modern international perspectives on education that are based on global learning and teaching engagement. The main impetus highlights the role of technology as a change-agent and conveyor for change on local, regional, and global arenas. This book will address the following objectives:
Provide insights regarding the current status of technology in higher education.
Consider the trajectory of technology in higher education.
Investigate the benefits and caveats of technologies in higher education.
There are three major themes that this book seeks to address. The first major theme is, “innovating technology and instructional design.” In this section, chapters could investigate (but are not limited to any of the following subthemes: virtual reality, linguistic translation and translation, artificial intelligence (AI)/technologies for streamlining teaching and learning, class and time management, student/teacher interactions, engagement strategies that use technology, structuring responses to student work that uses AI, management of academic programs and leadership, faculty mentorship, careers using AI, and quality assurance and academic accreditation in their education.
The second theme of this book is, “Student success: Engagement and Support.” This section will encapsulate subthemes such as: student success, equity, and diversity, at-risk students and retention, mental health and academic success, accommodations and accessibility, bridging the knowledge and opportunities gaps/barriers, international student recruitment strategies, gender and racial equity, effective practices for student success, cybersecurity, misinformation, and disinformation, and faculty professional development and skills.
The third theme of the book is, “case studies.” We envision this section providing specific studies that highlight topics like technical tools and applications in teaching and learning, analytic data and curriculum assessment, collaborative online and international collaboration (COIL), assessment and reflection, generative AI and social media in teaching and learning, and the rise of ChatGPT and visual platforms.
Chapters of this edited volume will be categorized into one of the three themes and we invite contributions for any of these designated areas. The target audience of this book would be higher education faculty, administration, and researchers. This book will be a unique resource for researchers, education policy makers, study abroad and global engagement organizations and offices. The international representation of the authorships provides a powerful opportunity for the readership to learn about how technologies are being used abroad to benefit their own practice and research.
