Abstract

This case study explores the transformative journey of Yuanfudao within China's dynamic K12 online education sector. Founded by Li Yong in 2012, it initially struggled with its business model centred around their question bank. Overcoming early challenges, they pivoted to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for online live courses, launching Fenbigongkao and subsequently integrating AI-driven solutions like Ape Search and Zebra AI. As the market evolved, they navigated regulatory changes and competitive pressures, adapting strategies to align with national educational policies and shifting consumer preference. The case examines key milestones such as strategic partnerships with Xinhua Publishing House and the launch of the Ape Learning Machine, highlighting their innovative approach to enhancing learning outcomes through technology. Analysing the growth trajectory, technological advancements, and strategic initiatives, the case offers insights into the broader implications of digital transformation in education and their role in shaping the future of K12 online learning in China.
