Introduction

Generation Alpha and Next Generation Leadership for Greener Futures Introduction As the world grapples with increasing environmental challenges, the emergence of Generation Alpha could present a unique opportunity for transformational change. Born in a rapidly digitalizing world where climate change and sustainability are gaining importance, Generation Alpha is poised to be the most educated, technologically savvy, and socially conscious generation in history. The need for innovative leadership aligned with the environmental imperatives of our time has never been greater, and this new generation may have the potential to redefine leadership in a way that prioritizes ecological balance, sustainability, and a greener future. Because they are the generation of the future who understand the importance of sustainability and nature better than past generations, and who continue to grow with this responsibility. Generation Alpha, consisting of individuals born between 2008-2010, will unfortunately inherit a world that has been significantly shaped by the actions and policies of previous generations. The world we leave them will be very different from the world we received. Because past generations were never fully aware of the value they held. Unlike their predecessors, Generation Alpha is growing up with a heightened awareness of environmental issues and sustainability, thanks in part to the digital revolution that has given them unprecedented access to information. It is natural to expect this generation to bring a new perspective to leadership, driven by their innate understanding of the interconnectedness of human actions with environmental consequences. Because they have been exposed to global environmental challenges from an early age, they have developed a deep sense of responsibility towards the planet, and this responsibility is likely to influence their values, decision-making processes and leadership style. What kind of leadership style will this generation define? Or will they modify existing leadership styles to suit their own understanding? The answers to these questions will be important for the future of the world. The concept of new generation leadership goes beyond traditional leadership paradigms by integrating sustainability into its core. This new approach to leadership emphasizes not only economic and social goals, but also the need for environmental stewardship. As Generation Alpha matures and steps into leadership roles, they are expected to pioneer innovative solutions that address the pressing environmental issues of our time, such as climate change, resource depletion and biodiversity loss. Their leadership will likely be characterized by a commitment to creating sustainable systems, promoting green innovation, and promoting practices that ensure the well-being of both people and the planet. The book aims to examine how Generation Alpha’s unique characteristics and upbringing lead them to move toward a greener future. By examining the potential of this generation to reshape leadership norms and practices, we can move forward from the conclusion that sustainability is not just an add-on, but a fundamental principle that guides all aspects of leadership, and we can have a new understanding of leadership thanks to how they shape it. In addition, by analyzing current trends and predicting future developments, this study aims to provide insights into how Generation Alpha can contribute to the global effort to achieve environmental sustainability and ensure a better future for future generations. Scholars working in fields such as sociology, environmental sciences, leadership theory, education, and futures studies can benefit from the results of this study. The study can contribute to the academic literature by providing new information and perspectives on these issues. In addition, policymakers on environmental sustainability and young leadership can develop strategies for the future by taking inspiration from this study. Understanding the leadership potential of young generations can be important when creating long-term environmental policies. Educators and institutions can design curricula and programs to develop the leadership potential of Generation Alpha. The study can provide guidance on how this generation should be educated. In order to prepare young generations for leadership roles and increase their awareness on environmental sustainability, this study can guide young leaders and activists. Companies and organizations can develop sustainable business strategies by adopting the new generation leadership approach. The study can provide clues to corporate leaders and human resources experts on how to recognize and support future leaders. Environmental civil society organizations and activists can develop the leadership potential of young generations in environmental sustainability.
