Introduction

Organization theory refers to a field of research developed to explain how organizations interact with various environmental factors while continuing their activities and how they manage these relationships (Taşçı, 2019; p: 6). Sustainable development is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (WCED, 1987: ). The concepts of sustainability and sustainable development have been among the most discussed topics in recent years in our world where environmental degradation is increasing. This issue is of great importance for organizations as it is at the very center of the energy, economy and environment triangle (Yeni, 2015). In today's world, sustainable development has become an even more important concept for organizations, especially because resources are scarce. As it is known, it is impossible to think of organizations independently of their surroundings. Changes imposed by the environment necessitate continuous learning for organizations. Organizations should always be ready to learn and change. Otherwise, their existence may be in danger. Failure of an organization to carry out the learning process may threaten its existence. In this context, it can be said that learning is of critical importance for the development and continuity of an organization (Pedler et al., 1997). Today, organizations produce much more information, share information within the organization, focus more than ever on sustainable competitive strategies, use their resources effectively and must be aware of the necessity of using it efficiently and keeping up with change much faster. Considering today's conditions, it can be said that all organizations have the opportunity to create and develop this capacity. Focusing on the relationship between sustainable development and organizational theories can enable organizations to learn, adapt to change, use their resources effectively and efficiently, and therefore increase organizational performance, through a better understanding of sustainability. In this context, the study is important. Because performance is one of the competitive capabilities for organizations. Organizations that can achieve sustainable competition may tend to be more successful than their competitors. Achieving effective use of resources is one of the biggest problems of organizations. Because, as stated before, resources are scarce. The aim of this study is to better understand sustainability and emphasize its importance by focusing on the relationship between sustainable development and organizational theories. When the literature is reviewed, it is seen that the number of studies that provide a clear perspective focusing on the relationship between organizational theories and the concept of sustainability is not yet sufficient. Therefore, the necessity of examining the relationships between these concepts in a systematic integrity constitutes the main justification of this study. In this context, another aim of the study is to contribute to the literature by adding new relationships and to make organizations aware of how important the concept of sustainability is. Many countries in the world are still developing countries. In order for countries to reach the level of a developed country, they must have the ability to produce products that require advanced technology and provide added value and to market these products effectively. Achieving this goal requires more learning, more change, and more effective management of the consequences that may arise during this change process. For this reason, it is recommended that organizations create a resource utilization expertise department, so that organizations can use scarce resources more effectively and efficiently.
