Call for Chapters

Proposals Submission Deadline: June 30, 2024
Full Chapters Due: September 22, 2024
Submission Date: September 22, 2024

Introduction

Operational research and decision support systems play a crucial role in addressing complex problems across various domains, ranging from logistics and supply chain management to healthcare operations and financial engineering. This book aims to showcase the latest advancements in these fields and their applications in real-world scenarios. Furthermore, It emphasizes the importance of sustainability and environmental considerations in operational research. With growing concerns about climate change and resource depletion, there is a pressing need to develop sustainable practices in various sectors. Operational research methods can contribute to this effort by optimizing resource allocation, reducing waste, and mitigating environmental impacts. Through innovative approaches and interdisciplinary collaborations, operational researchers can help address the challenges of sustainability and promote environmentally friendly practices.

Objective

One of the key areas of focus is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques into operational research and decision support systems. AI algorithms, such as machine learning and deep learning, offer powerful tools for optimizing processes, analyzing large datasets, and making informed decisions. By harnessing the capabilities of AI, researchers and practitioners can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operational systems in diverse application areas. Moreover, this book aims to highlight real-world applications of operational research and decision support systems. Case studies and practical examples demonstrate how these methodologies are applied to solve complex problems in industries such as transportation, healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. By showcasing successful implementations and best practices, this book provides valuable insights for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers alike.

Target Audience

Academics and professionals interested in operational research and decision support. The same applies to Masters and PhD students, as well as researchers. The topics covered in this book concern many fields of activity that are confronted with optimization and decision support problems. This book is designed to raise awareness of these topics among non-experts. There are a huge number of strategic, tactical and operational issues to be addressed.

Recommended Topics

• Environmental and/or societal challenges for operational research • Operational research, transport and logistics in the healthcare sector • Logistics problems in urban environments • Optimization in telecommunication or energy networks • (Meta)heuristics for combinatorial optimization problems • Robust, stochastic optimization • Logistics-based optimization models for drones and robots • Multi-objective optimization • Production planning and optimization • Artificial intelligence and optimization • Integration of learning methods in metaheuristics • Simulation-optimization approach • Decision support system

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before June 30, 2024, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by July 14, 2024 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines.Full chapters are expected to be submitted by September 22, 2024, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at https://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-anonymized review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Global Insights and Applications of Operational Research and Decision Support. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-anonymized peer review editorial process.

All proposals should be submitted through the eEditorial Discovery® online submission manager.
