Myrtle Beach Conference Provides a Practical Approach to Integrating Technology into Literacy Education

Dr. Valerie Bryan to Present at TLC at the Beach Annual ConferenceIGI Global editor Dr. Valerie Bryan recently presented at TLC at the Beach, an annual conference hosted by Horry County Schools Adult & Community Education from March 13-16, 2013, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her talk was entitled "A Practical Approach to Integrating Technology into Literacy Teaching and Learning", part of an annual conference that challenges teachers, academics, and librarians to provide the latest technology to authentically prepare students for the future. Great educators know that engaging students through a medium that is natural to them is absolutely critical in today’s society. This conference is designed to educate in best practices for technology literacy.

Dr. Valerie Bryan, an Educational Leadership Professor, also held the Pre-Conference Workshop entitled “Health Literacy in the Cyber Age” on Wednesday, March 13.

Her session provides an educational focus on training venues for patients and medical practitioners conveying a clear meaning or understanding of health literacy in general. This session integrates various technology tools with the use of computers, tablets, and health-based websites. It also targets helpful information for numerous populations including senior adults, individuals with literacy or language deficiencies, career and vocational trainees, graduate students, and community-based collaboratives including recreation and leisure services, as well as after-school programs. Dr. Bryan’s research is discussed in her book Technology Use and Research Approaches for Community Education and Professional Development. This publication investigates how the role of information technology is impacting the academic and workplace environments. This publication explores areas such as unique learning styles, various methods of disseminating information, and technology’s role and impact within these settings.
