IGI Global’s free informative session, “Increase the Sharing Power for Your Previously Published Work Through Retrospective Open Access,” was held on Friday December 16th, and was met with both interest and support from the academic community.
Importance of the session:
Many authors don’t realize that by having their work published under standard access instead of open access, they are limiting the reach of their work and missing out on so many opportunities to share their research with a wider audience. Open access allows authors to retain copyright for their work and share their work freely as they please, it also means that researchers all over the world can access the content without any paywalls or login restrictions of any kind, increasing download and usage rates by as much as 89%. Authors can easily convert their past work to open access at any time through Retrospective Open Access.
The session covered key topics including:
- What is Open Access?
- What is Retrospective Open Access?
- Types of Retrospective Open Access - Paper Level, Journals, & Full Book Publications
- Benefits of Retrospective Open Access
- Overview of the Retrospective Open Access Conversion Process
- Average Costs to Convert Work to Open Access
- Funding Options - Contributor Funding and Discount Options, Crowdfunding, etc.
As not everyone who wished to attend the session was able to do so, we are pleased to offer the presentation PowerPoint slides and a recording of the session for those who were unable to join.
