Editor of "Virtual Work and Human Interaction Research" Granted the 2012 Outstanding Service Award

Professor Shawn Long Honored by the National Communication Association (NCA)

Professor Shawn Long Honored by the National Communication Association (NCA)Professor Shawn D. Long, editor of the IGI Global publications Virtual Work and Human Interaction Research and Communication, Relationships, and Practices in Virtual Work, was recently honored by the National Communication Association (NCA) for his commendable works of service impacting the African American community.

Professor Long has been selected to receive the 2012 Outstanding Service Award from the Black Caucus of the NCA. The Black Caucus, the first of its kind in NCA’s history, is the oldest caucus of the NCA. Its mission is to advocate for the socio-political status and understood relevance of its members’ contributions to the communication discipline.

“I am honored to be chosen for this recognition,” said Long. “Service is an important component of my professional and personal life, and I am humbled that this organization would recognize me in such a way."

The NCA serves scholars, teachers, and practitioners by enabling and supporting their professional interests in research and teaching. Dedicated to fostering and promoting free and ethical communication, the NCA promotes the widespread appreciation and importance of communication in public and private life, the application of competent communication to improve the quality of human life and relationships, and the use of knowledge about communication to solve human problems.

Professor Shawn D. Long is Chair of the Department of Communication Studies and former Director of the Communication Studies Graduate Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is currently Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Associate Professor of Organizational Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. An organizational scholar with numerous peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Long’s teaching and research spans organizational communication, organizational science, virtual work, diversity communication, virtual- team assimilation, and socialization, and health communication. Professor Long’s publication Virtual Work and Human Interaction Research recently received a favorable review from CHOICE magazine.
