123 High Temperature Records Broken Last Summer

New Australian Prime Minister Cuts Environmental Programs

By IGI Global on Oct 15, 2013
Tony Abbott, Australia’s new Prime Minister, is already making big changes on only the second day of his premiership. In this short period of time, he has dissolved an environmental agency set up to provide independent information to the public and apparently, Mr. Abbott is not going to stop there. The plan moving forward is to eliminate two other entities, including the Climate Change Authority, which provides independent advice on reducing carbon emissions, and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, which supports private investment in renewable energy sources. (The Independent)

Environmental advocates see these changes as large steps backwards for Australia, a country that recorded 123 new high temperature records for last summer. The IGI Global publication titled Sustainable Technologies, Policies, and Constraints in the Green Economy provides insight on many steps that would move a country forward when it comes to sustainability, just the opposite of what is now underway in the country of Australia. By carefully investigating the complex issues which surround the wide array of concepts, policies, and measures that come into play when promoting the somewhat new ideology of a green economy, this title serves as a relevant resource for professors, researchers, practitioners, and students who are interested in the area.

Edited by Andrei Jean-Vasile (Petroleum and Gas University of Ploiesti, Romania), Turek Rahoveanu Adrian (Institute of Research for Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, Romania), Jonel Subic (Institute of Agricultural Economics, Belgrade, Serbia), and Dorel Dusmanescu (Petroleum and Gas University of Ploiesti, Romania), this publication covers over 50 years of research in the field in order to provide the best theoretical frameworks and empirical research to its readers.

This book, along with numerous other publications, is available through IGI Global's InfoSci®-Environmental Science database, which is fully-searchable and provides access to all chapters included in IGI Global books that have been published in the core subject area of environmental science and technologies.
