International Journal of Teacher Education and Professional Development (IJTEPD) to hear her thoughts, outlook, and mission for leading this open access journal.
The International Journal of Teacher Education and Professional Development, invites quantitative and qualitative research and interdisciplinary studies in education, especially in teacher preparation, to include areas of assessment, technology, diversity, and cultural competency.
International Journal of Teacher Education and Professional Development was established in 2018 as a hybrid journal and converted to a gold open access journal on January 1st, 2023.
What inspired you to become the Editor-in-Chief of the IGI Global journal IJTEPD?
Dr. Zhou: I am a teacher educator. I like to provide an avenue for educators, teachers, and other professionals alike a venue to present, discuss their research and practices.
To you, what are the most important attributes of your journal? What sets your journal apart from others?
Dr. Zhou: The journal focuses on current research and practices so it is informative and practices to teachers and teacher education professional on trends in the field. This journal has a large audience within the world scope for researchers and worldwide access for discussion of teaching and learning research and practices in the field we share.
What does it mean for you to lead an open access journal where all new published content is freely available worldwide?
Dr. Zhou: This is a movement for journal researchers and journal audiences to access research and share research in an innovative format for the betterment of the profession. I move along with the movement.

Who will benefit from the open access research within IJTEPD?
Dr. Zhou: Researchers, publishers, journal audiences, and other professionals alike all benefit from the open movement in an information and knowledge age to challenge our understanding of authority of knowledge and perception of knowledge.
What is your outlook on Open Access research in the future as more mandates are put in place and more publications take up the open access model of publishing?
Dr. Zhou: I do not necessarily forsee there will be more publications and more demands simply because it is open. Publications for the journal will go through vigorous peer review processes and ethical publishing processes so open is not equal to larger volume of publication or less quality in publications.
Are there any trending/niche research areas that you are looking for in the articles submitted to your journal? What are some future directions for your research?
Dr. Zhou: Reforms happen in education and teacher education all the time. The journal intends to capture those innovations in a worldwide platform. The journal welcomes all practices to reform and innovate teaching and learning and to address issues and challenges in teaching and teacher education. I am very interested in brain research and results that inform teaching and learning practices.
