Are Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) Revolutionizing the Current State of Education? There has been a lot of hype in recent years regarding Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) and their potential impact on universities and the education system. MOOC supporters claim that they are the best higher education advancement in decades, providing high-quality free classes to students all over the world. But skeptics warn that the courses will have a devastating impact on the university system as a whole.

MOOCs differ from traditional online courses in that they are typically free, open to anyone with an Internet connection. MOOCs can be created by institutions and individuals, but are most commonly offered by third parties.

So, are MOOCs helpful or harmful? The study "Benefit and Cost Analysis of Massive Open Online Courses: Pedagogical Implications on Higher Education" from the International Journal of Cyber Behavior, Psychology and Learning (IJCBPL), provides an in-depth analysis of the pedagogical implications of MOOCs in higher education. Research in MOOCs is of vital importance because these courses may offer meaningful learning opportunities for students who are otherwise impossible to reach. The concepts of e-learning, online learning and distance learning have been previously addressed where research has indicated that the integration of online technologies to higher education do not automatically support learning. Many education institutions still question the sustainability of courses using extensive online technologies in higher education. In this article, author Belle Selene Xia of the Department of Information and Computer Science at Aalto University, Finland, opens up new research opportunities in the student-centered design in MOOCs, incorporating a personalized learning environment to online education.

IJCBPL offers a forum for academic exchange of new ideas and research findings related to psychological aspects and serves as a vehicle for promoting techniques and methodologies derived from rigorous research and practices that use psychological and cognitive principles to design and develop cyber learning. Indexed in Scopus, PsycINFO, ACM Digital Library, and more, IJCBPL welcomes both quantitative and qualitative studies using experimental design, as well as ethnographic methods to understand the dynamics of cyber learning.

There is a growing issue in the research community of authors submitting their articles to gold OA journals (and even hybrid OA/subscription-based journals), and then withdrawing their article after it has been accepted to the journal, effectively utilizing all of the resources of that journal, including the peer review, only to then refuse to publish at the end of the process.
