Government Cybersecurity Woes

Many Citizens Have No Choice but to be At Risk of Hacking

By IGI Global on May 19, 2023
Hacker in a dark room The US federal government has access to a vast amount of personal data, making it a prime target for cyberattacks. Although the government has made efforts to improve its cybersecurity, incidents still occur. It's not just the US that faces such issues; there are similar concerns in the United Kingdom, Europe, and China, where a patchwork of privacy and data laws and legislation is developing. Citizens have no choice but to entrust their data to the government to access certain services, but there is a lack of evaluation of policies and procedures to prevent breaches. The Handbook of Research on Cyber Law, Data Protection, and Privacy (ISBN: 9781799886419), which is indexed by Scopus and published by IGI Global, delves into the complex relationship between technology and law. It examines how technology affects legal, social, and ethical issues related to public engagement, as well as the impact of technology on traditional and emerging forms of dispute resolution.

Profs. Nisha Dhanraj Dewani, Zubair Ahmed Khan, Aarushi Agarwal, Mamta Sharma, and Shaharyar Asaf Khan "With the emergence of the latest technological miracles such as blockchain, cryptocurrency, NFTs and digital data protection in cyberspace at a global level, it becomes pertinent to keep a check on the adequacy of laws or lack of it to tackle the socio-legal issues that emerge alongside these technologies. It is when the new technology is at a nascent stage that legal experts are required to delve into its possible impact on the society at large."
