According to a new jobs survey recently released from CareerCast, the best job for 2011 is software engineering. Taking income, work environment, stress, physical demand, and hiring outlook into account, the software engineer topped other good jobs including mathematicians, actuaries, statisticians, and computer systems analysts. Because being a software engineer is "a job that involves the design and creation of software for everything from operating systems to cell phone "apps" to interactive games" ( www.careercast.com/jobs-rated/10-best-jobs-2011) and requires both skill with numbers and a strong knowledge of computers, this career was ranked number one for the year. Two emerging technologies that have pushed software engineers to the top of the list are web applications and cloud computing.
