Prof. Odagiri shares his research on Internet PBNM

Why Internet Policy Based Network Management (PBNM) Provides Higher Data Protection: Hear From Expert Prof. Kazuya Odagiri

By Sharlene Oong on Apr 9, 2019
Recent news broke that over 620 million personal online accounts from 16 hacked websites are for sale on the dark web. The seller is utilizing the “Dream Market” on the well-known tor network to auction off individual’s names, contact information, and encrypted passwords causing a great concern for Internet users around the world, as this is the “third collection” of data that has been auctioned off through the dark web since January of this year. Due to these ongoing data breaches, businesses and individuals are looking for new solutions to protect their personal and private data. Prof. Kazuya Odagiri, from Sugiyama Jogakuen University, Japan and author of the IGI Global publication, Strategic Policy-Based Network Management in Contemporary Organizations, proposes a solution on how Internet Policy-Based Network Management (PBNM) can mitigate these breaches and ensure further security on the Internet.

Why are your respective areas of research important to the field at large?

As the Internet is an autonomous decentralized network, it is not managed safely and efficiently overall. When a user who does not understand that the mechanism of the Internet is connected to the Internet, there is a high risk of personal information leakage increasing the likelihood of a network attack. To effectively manage this problem, I am promoting research on Internet PBNM to apply it towards to the Internet in its entirety and manage it from a comprehensive, long-term perspective. The final goal is to utilize a cloud-type dynamic Internet control service in the form of a cyber-physical system, as shown below:

In your opinion, what are some of the benefits of your research to its community of users?

As the proposed scheme will control over the entire Internet, all its’ users including researchers, will benefit from this system. As this cyber-physical system is utilized, it will lead to the creation of PBNM. (An of this cyber-physical system is shown in Figure 2 below). In addition, the proposed scheme establishes a form of new network communication and specifically, it is the network control scheme that adds a destination changing function and a filter function based on policy information distributed from a server on top of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

What are the future directions of your research areas?

In addition to the research on establishing Internet control (as shown in Figure. 1), I am planning to conduct research on the realization of new network services, as the research shown on a virtual factory in Figure 2. Every industry in the world is closely related to the service created based on Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and more. Ultimately, research focusing on creating these services will become more essential in the future as it is the next trending area of research within this field.

In order to realize such a fine-grained service, fine-grained Internet control is advantageous. My publication, Strategic Policy-Based Network Management in Contemporary Organizations, showcases my proposed scheme based on communication control on a per user basis which can be applied into business practices and governmental policies.
We would like to thank Prof. Odagiri for sharing his research on Internet PNBM, business information systems, cybersecurity, data protection, network management, and more. For more information on this topic area, view his publication, Strategic Policy-Based Network Management in Contemporary Organizations. This reference book is an important professional source for the latest information on internal networks within large companies. Presenting security functions, control accesses, user support, and implementation of the DACS Scheme, it has been designed for practitioners, independent researchers, and business leaders that are involved in an advanced professional setting.
This publication is available through IGI Global’s world-renowned InfoSci®-Books, a database of 4,500+ reference books with nearly 100,000 full-text chapters focusing on emerging research. With an annual subscription (2000-2019) offered as low as US$ 8,580 US$ 6,435* (one-time perpetual purchase for the current copyright year (2019) offered as low as US$ 17,500 US$13,125**), this database hosts key features such as full-text PDF and HTML format, no DRM, unlimited simultaneous users, and no embargo of content (research is available months in advance of the print release). Spanning across 350+ topics in 11 core subject areas, including business and management, computer science, education, engineering, social sciences and humanities, and more, this robust research database is ideal for academic and research institutions.

Additionally, when a library invests in IGI Global’s InfoSci-Books and/or InfoSci®-Journals (185+ scholarly journals) database, they can take advantage of IGI Global’s Open Access (OA) Fee Waiver Initiative to provide their institution with an additional source of OA article processing charge (APC) funding. Through this initiative, IGI Global matches the library’s investment with a fund of equal value to go towards subsidizing the OA article processing charges (APCs) for their faculty patrons at that institution when their work is accepted under OA into an IGI Global journal.***

Purchase or recommend this database to your institution’s librarian.
Find below a sample of related security titles which are also featured in IGI Global’s award-winning InfoSci-Books database and are available for purchase in print and electronic format. Be sure to recommend these titles to your librarian, to ensure your institution can acquire the most emerging research. Additionally, for researchers, all of the chapters featured in these publications are available for purchase through IGI Global’s OnDemand feature for as low as US$ 30.
