Bmore SLA LogoOn June 9-13, IGI Global exhibited at the SLA 2018 Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, the academic publisher promoted their new librarian-focused initiatives, particularly their new InfoSci©-Database pricing, their library account program, and their new Open Access initiative.

“IGI Global had a wonderful time in Baltimore at the 2018 SLA Conference! The conference was well-executed, and it was exciting to see many librarians from prominent institutions and to continue our collaboration with many medical, federal, and corporate libraries,” expressed Caroline Campbell, Marketing Manager. “Additionally, we want to thank everyone who expressed their gratitude for the 2017 Military Libraries workshop sponsorship and those from Fedlink who stopped by our booth to talk about our FedLink partnership.”

Representing the academic publisher was Nick Newcomer, Director of Marketing, Caroline Campbell, Marketing Manager, Melissa Wagner, Managing Editor of Acquisitions, and Abdoul Amadou, International Sales Coordinator. They spoke with partners and attendees about their affordable and personalized database services, constructed for libraries of all sizes.

This included their transparent database pricing for both InfoSci©-Journals, a collection of 175+ journals containing thousands of articles with over one million reference citations, and InfoSci©-Books, a collection of 4,000 books containing 86,000 chapters.

“Many librarians were interested in our content, and some of our top-trending publications included Intelligent Vehicles and Materials Transportation in the Manufacturing Sector, 3D Printing, and Handbook of Research on Organizational Culture and Diversity in the Modern Workforce,” said Melissa Wagner, Managing Editor of Acquisitions. “Additionally, it was exciting to see how many librarians utilized publications within our Library Information Science collection for their own professional development, and many expressed that our Business and Management collection assisted them in running and managing their libraries!”

To ensure that all content within IGI Global’s portfolio is accessible, librarians have the opportunity to receive a 25% discount when they sign up for an IGI Global Library Account. This account provides librarians with an easy and flexible purchasing process for IGI Global’s expansive collection of reference books and journals. With a wide variety of publication formats, including authored and edited references, handbooks of research, and encyclopedias, IGI Global’s Library Account makes academic publications more readily available and provides librarians with easier access to the research they need for their institution.

Finally, IGI Global presented their new Open Access initiative at the conference, which provides an affordable solution to Open Access publishing. For any library that invests in an IGI Global journal database, IGI Global will match the library’s investment with a fund of equal value to go toward subsidizing the open access article processing charge (APC) for their students, faculty, and staff at that institution when their work is submitted and accepted under open access into an IGI Global journal housed within that collection.**

IGI Global was excited to meet everyone who stopped by their booth and to share their new initiatives. The academic publisher looks forward to further collaborations with librarians and researchers at future conferences.

*InfoSci-Journals $4,950 annual subscription price and InfoSci-Books $16,500 perpetual purchase is only available to new customers and cannot be combined with most offers or multi-site use.

**The fund will be offered on an annual basis and expire at the end of the subscription period. The fund would renew as the subscription is renewed for each year thereafter. The open access fees will be waived after the student, faculty, or staff’s paper has been vetted and accepted into an IGI Global journal and the fund can only be used toward publishing OA in an IGI Global journal. Libraries in developing countries will have the match on their investment doubled.

There is a growing issue in the research community of authors submitting their articles to gold OA journals (and even hybrid OA/subscription-based journals), and then withdrawing their article after it has been accepted to the journal, effectively utilizing all of the resources of that journal, including the peer review, only to then refuse to publish at the end of the process.
