IGI Global’s Online Symposium Series: A Great Resource for Professors and Students

By IGI Global on Aug 4, 2011
IGI Global regularly hosts its online symposium to feature the research of its distinguished authors. Recently we hosted Danilo Piaggesi, one of the editors of Global Strategy and Practice of E-Governance: Examples from Around the World, to talk about his current project, "The Knowledge Economy Approach for the Social Inclusion of People with Disabilities." Previously, we have hosted symposiums on many topics including "Adoption of Grid and Cloud Computing Technology" with Dr. Emmanuel Udoh, "Can Games Support Ethical Thinking?" with Dr. Karen Schrier, "Producing Increased Interaction and Critical Thinking in the College Classroom" with Dr. Leonard Shedletsky, and "Southern California Tidepools LIVE: Live Interactive Virtual Explorations" with Kimberly Mann Bruch. For a full list of our past symposiums and to view recordings, please visit our symposium page.

Coming up on August 24th at 12 PM EST, IGI Global will be hosting a symposium entitled "Social Responsibly in the Information Age" with Arvind Ashta. This symposium will discuss how Software as a Service (SaaS) has allowed a steep reduction in computing costs, and in turn, a reduction in vendor pricing for low-income customers. This Webinar will also explain Corporate Social Responsibility as it pertains to SaaS delivery and discuss ways in which microfinance can be used as a tool in affordable SaaS delivery to underprivileged clients. Register for this symposium today!

Dr. Ashta, from the Groupe ESC Dijon Bourgogne, France, is the editor of the recent release, Advanced Technologies for Microfinance: Solutions and Challenges. This reference is the first book to systematically address technology's impact on microfinance. It discusses a wide variety of technology applications that will define the next generation of the microfinance movement and it addresses the tough questions surrounding technology in microfinance. For instance, what are the disadvantages of technology-enabled microfinance and what will it mean for the inclusiveness and empowerment of the service? This dynamic collection is a must-have for anyone interested in microfinance, whether you are a donor, lender, or investor. Visit his books page to learn more.
