IGI Global attended the 42nd UKSG Annual Conference to showcase how we are meeting the call for Open Access (OA) publishing.

IGI Global's OA Fee Waiver (Offset Model) Initiative on Display at UKSG

By Anne Long on Apr 17, 2019
Recently, IGI Global attended the United Kindgom Serials Group (UKSG) 42nd Annual Conference and Exhibition in Telford, UK, on April 8-10, 2019. While there, Mr. Nick Newcomer, Director of Marketing, and Ms. Caroline Campbell, Marketing Manager, represented IGI Global to showcase to librarians how IGI Global is meeting the call for Open Access (OA) publishing, well in advance Plan S, with our transformative OA Fee Waiver (Offset Model) Initiative.

“Overall, it was wonderful to reconnect and make new connections with librarians at the UKSG Annual Conference and Exhibition. “Based on the dialogue with various librarians, we saw an invested interest in IGI Global’s Open Access Fee Waiver (Offset Model) Initiative and are truly seeing it transform the publishing and resource acquisitions landscape. Through this model we want to collaborate with librarians to not only provide valuable research to their patrons, but also OA publishing opportunities to expand the overall body of knowledge,” stated Ms. Campbell.

Mindful of budgetary constraints and demand for new research acquisition models by librarians, IGI Global created our transformative OA Fee Waiver (Offset Model) Initiative to maximize libraries investments in content, and offer complete, simple, and transparent pricing on the IGI Global's InfoSci®-Databases which include the award-winning InfoSci®-Books (4,500+ e-books) and InfoSci®-Journals (185+ e-journals) databases. Additionally, this initiative will provide institutions with an additional source of OA funding for their faculty patrons.

    How it Works

    1. IGI Global will provide an extended trial for all participating members to all our e-books and e-journals.

    2. At the onset of the trial, we will negotiate and agree on pricing based on the number of participants with a predefined multiplier applied to the list price of each individual shared resource.

    3. Once the trial is complete, each participating member will make their selections (excel spreadsheet) from usage data (COUNTER reports) and/or select desired content based on needs.

    4. IGI Global will create a specialized bundle with the selected shared resources and provide perpetual or subscription access to participating members through IP authentication on IGI Global’s InfoSci® platform.

    5. IGI Global will match the libraries’ investments in the selected resources with a fund of equal value to go towards subsidizing the OA APCs for their patrons to be shared among all participating members.
