caroline muglia In continuation of the annual Academic Librarian Sponsorship Program, IGI Global is pleased to award University of Southern California Head Resource Sharing and Collection Assessment Librarian, Caroline Muglia, with a $500 travel stipend to attend the 2016 Charleston Conference, held from October 31st- November 5th in historic Charleston, South Carolina.

As a leading publisher of scholarly publications and databases, IGI Global seeks to support the advancement of resources and services in academic libraries. As part of this initiative, we are proud to continue our Academic Librarian Sponsorship Program, which sponsors librarians’ attendance of the industry’s most important events. IGI Global is proud to be a long-standing Diamond Sponsor for the 36th Annual Charleston Conference. Focusing on issues in book and serial acquisition, this year's conference theme is “Roll with the Times, or the Times Roll Over You.” Visit the conference website for more information.

Caroline Muglia is the Head Resource Sharing and Collection Assessment Librarian, a first-of-its-kind position at the University of Southern California Libraries. Her work focuses on a metrics-driven approach to maintaining a strong and relevant collection for users and researchers. Her work requires seeing the metrics behind all resources, but not relying entirely on them to tell the important story that brings together users, budgets, and the shifting needs of physical spaces of libraries. Some days she’s number cruncher. Other days, she’s a social organizer. Caroline received her MSIS from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Join us in congratulating Caroline on this award as well as her exceptional accomplishments in advancing the state of knowledge resources.

There is a growing issue in the research community of authors submitting their articles to gold OA journals (and even hybrid OA/subscription-based journals), and then withdrawing their article after it has been accepted to the journal, effectively utilizing all of the resources of that journal, including the peer review, only to then refuse to publish at the end of the process.
