Hershey, PA – October 27, 2015– IGI Global, an international publisher of progressive information science and technology research, continuously seeks to support the advancement of knowledge resources and services in academic libraries. As part of this initiative, we are proud to continue our Academic Librarian Sponsorship Program, which sponsors librarians’ attendance of the industry’s most important events.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements in the field of Library Information Science, IGI Global is pleased to honor Technology Librarian Cynthia Hart of Tidewater Community College with a $500 travel stipend to the 2015 Charleston Conference.

Held from November 4th-7th in Charleston, South Carolina, the 35th Annual Charleston Conference focuses on issues in book and serial acquisition. This year's theme is “Where Do We Go from Here?” Visit the conference website for more information: http://www.charlestonlibraryconference.com/.

With varied experience in administration, supervision, and programming, Ms. Hart has worked as a public librarian for twenty-six years in progressively responsible positions within the Virginia Beach Public Library System. For more than a decade, she managed the library’s intranet and Internet sites including all virtual resources, services, and digital collections.

In addition, she established and managed the library’s social media presence, coordinated gaming and multimedia projects, as well as developed and implemented web 2.0 training and tools. Working with TagWhat, she led the library to be the first in the nation to use augmented reality to boost local history collections and provide rich location-based storytelling.

Currently, Cindy manages technology and technology programming, as well as shared daily responsibility for the Joint-Use Library, a collaboration library between Tidewater Community College and the City of Virginia Beach. Her responsibilities include customer service, scheduling, staff relations, budgeting, payroll, staff training, and program development. Congratulations Cindy! There is a growing issue in the research community of authors submitting their articles to gold OA journals (and even hybrid OA/subscription-based journals), and then withdrawing their article after it has been accepted to the journal, effectively utilizing all of the resources of that journal, including the peer review, only to then refuse to publish at the end of the process.
