Dr. Evans Osabuohien to Present at Tropentag 2015

By IGI Global on Aug 27, 2015
Handbook of Research on In-Country Determinants and Implications of Foreign Land Acquisitions IGI Global Editor Dr. Evans Osabuohien has been asked to present at the upcoming Tropentag Conference in Berlin, Germany. Held from September 16th-18th at Humboldt University of Berlin, the Tropentag is a development-oriented and interdisciplinary conference. It addresses issues of resource management, environment, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food, nutrition and related sciences in the context of rural development, sustainable resource use and poverty alleviation worldwide.

Dr. Osabuohien's panel is entitled "Large Scale Land Acquisition in Sub-Sahara Africa." This workshop aims to discuss large scale land acquisitions (LSLAs) in sub-Saharan Africa. LSLA may entail development opportunities but not without some adverse implications for the national economies in general and the host communities in particular. The workshop intends to deal with the topic through two elements:
  • Formal launch of Dr. Evans Osabuohien's IGI Global title, Handbook of Research on In-Country Determinants and Implications of Foreign Land Acquisitions, with a presentation of the main findings and conclusions.
  • Discussion on the phenomenon beyond the handbook content, as well as on the latest development and policy reactions. Other experts will provide key statements in order to stimulate an informed debate with the workshop's participants.
Also in attendance at the conference will be IGI Global contributors Dr. Felicia Olokoyo (Covenant University, Nigeria), Dr. Michael Bruentrup (German Development Institute, Germany), Dr. Itai Offat Manyanhaire (The Zimbabwe Open University), Dr David Omole (Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa & Covenant University, Nigeria), Dr Kassa T. Alemu (Ethiopian Civil Service University, Ethiopia & University of South Africa, South Africa), and Dr Elijah A. Obayelu (Federal University of Agriculture – Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria). More information on the conference workshops here: http://www.tropentag.de/conference/workshops.php.

Dr. Osabuohien's title, the Handbook of Research on In-Country Determinants and Implications of Foreign Land Acquisitions, is a premier reference that examines the economic, sociological, and environmental issues surrounding land transactions and the impact these deals may have on local households and communities. Focusing on international issues as well as domestic concerns, this publication is a useful reference for policymakers, academics, researchers, and advanced-level students in various disciplines.

Part of the Advances in Finance, Accounting, and Economics (AFAE) Book Series, this collection aims to publish comprehensive and informative titles in all areas of economics and economic theory, finance, and accounting to assist in advancing the available knowledge and providing for further research development in these dynamic fields.
