Sony and Microsoft’s Upcoming Advancements in Technology

What Does the Future of Gaming Look Like?

By Brittany Haynes on Jul 24, 2019

According to a recent Popular Science article, Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony PlayStation are making substantial updates to their gaming systems, which include supporting 8k resolution, creating faster frame rates, enhancing the processing speed, and creating more “photorealistic” graphics through ray-tracing. Scheduled to hit the stores during the holiday season in 2020, these features will outpace current technology to provide players with a more realistic and immersive gaming experience.

Many researchers are anticipating and exploring these newest technological upgrades that come close to blurring the lines between simulation and reality as these technological advancements (i.e. ray-tracing, higher resolutions, etc.) can be utilized throughout the entertainment industry, as well as provide valuable research across various fields including education, medicine, computer science, art, and engineering.

As a leader within technological research advancements, IGI Global has continually published resources on the latest developments within simulation, rendering and processing, and photorealistic graphics, that have led the way for these recent updates.
