The Impact of the Newest Apple Watch Update

Does an "Apple" a Day Keep the Doctor Away?

By Brittany Haynes on Sep 6, 2019
According to a recent TNW article, one of the newest updates to the Apple Watch is an FDA-approved ECG monitor that can monitor users' hearts for signs of irregular heartbeats and help identify undiagnosed heart conditions. Although this technology has been positively impacting consumers, it is causing the medical community to question how Apple is able to harness this technology in their sleek design.

Healthcare companies and medical manufacturers have struggled with creating their powerful technology in a form that is comfortable to wear and “stylish enough” to ensure that consumers are not self-conscious. Additionally, this new update is now showcasing that the best wearable devices are passive, as the health monitoring is happening without the user knowing.

With wearable devices and medical technologies continuously advancing, IGI Global publishes the latest peer-reviewed research on this topic. View the related chapters below, all of which can be found in IGI Global’s InfoSci-Books® database:
