A Note from Mr. Peter Scott, Director of Sales for North America

How Consortia Can Provide Open Access Funding for Member Institutions

By Peter Scott on Aug 23, 2019
During my first few months as Director of Sales for North America, I have enhanced relationships with North American consortia by demonstrating IGI Global’s Open Access (OA) Fee Waiver (Read and Publish) Initiative.

Announced well in advance of mandates like Plan S, IGI Global is one of the only publishers providing 100% subsidies to institutions’ faculty and staff OA article processing charges, which helps mitigate the concept of publishers’ “double-dipping”. This initiative provides consortium:

  • Access to IGI Global’s 185+ scholarly journals and/or 5,300+ reference books
  • A tool for marketing resources to patrons
  • OA publishing support for faculty and staff
  • Power to negotiate better offers from larger publishers

If you are interested in more information regarding this initiative, contact me at pscott@igi-global.com or 914-356-0378 to set up a phone call, online meeting, or institution visit. For individual institutions interested in this opportunity, I’d be grateful for your recommendation of IGI Global ‘s initiative to your consortium leadership.

About IGI Global's InfoSci®-Databases

IGI Global's expanding portfolio of 5,300+ reference works and 185+ scholarly journals are featured in IGI Global’s InfoSci-Databases, which include InfoSci-Books and InfoSci-Journals. These databases are ideal for academic and research-focused institutions, as they contain forward-thinking, peer-reviewed resources in 11 core subject areas including:

  • Business & Management
  • Computer Science & IT
  • Education
  • Environment, Agriculture, & Physical Sciences
  • Government & Law
  • Library & Information Science
  • Media & Communications
  • Medicine, Healthcare, & Life Sciences
  • Science & Engineering
  • Security & Forensics
  • Social Sciences & Humanities
Additionally, when a library invests in IGI Global’s InfoSci-Journals and/or InfoSci-Books databases, they can take advantage of IGI Global’s Open Access (OA) Fee Waiver (Read and Publish) Initiative to provide their institution with an additional source of OA article processing charge (APC) funding. Through this transformative initiative, IGI Global matches the library’s investment with a fund of equal value to go towards subsidizing the OA article processing charges (APCs) for their faculty patrons at that institution when their work is accepted under OA into an IGI Global journal.*
