Company Shares Speech Technology Highlighting Need for Assistive Technologies

Ambient Corporation is allowing researchers an opportunity to better understand their innovations by releasing a development kit of their AudeoSensor(TM). The AudeoSensor(tm) works by tracking electrical movements from brain messages to produce speech for those who have lost the ability to speak. "It is our hope that the Audeo will give people back this ability and allow many more profound ideas to change the world through communication," says co-founder of Ambient Corporation, Michael Callahan ( http://focus.ti.com/pr/docs/preldetail.tsp?sectionId=594&prelId=sc08029).

IGI Global is also concerned with the sharing of the knowledge used to create technologies such as the AudeoSensor(TM). One of our newest releases, "Computer Synthesized Speech Technologies: Tools for Aiding Impairment," edited by Drs. John Mullennix and Steven Stern, both from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, USA, presents a scholarly perspective of assistive technologies, namely computer synthesized speech (CSS).

This book serves to ground this work in current theory
and research while at the same time existing as an approachable book used in the classroom or used as a reference book from one's bookshelf. Each chapter is geared toward providing information that practitioners should know, or even better, can use.
