Case Studies to Keep Ourselves Secure

By IGI Global on Mar 10, 2011
Security technologies help keep us secure from acts of terror, whether implemented in the physical or cyber world, and safeguard us from criminal activity online. As the need for these technologies grows, so, too, do ethical questions regarding the use of these technologies. When is it appropriate to monitor employees' workplace habits, for instance? Does the government have the right to monitor or compel sensitive data in the pursuit of the common good?
Developing a legal framework which sets the standards of use for security technologies helps assist society in answering crucial questions about privacy, security, enforcement, and forensics. Real world applications of security technologies, ethics, and law have the potential to be much more complex than originally anticipated. What could be better than learning from real-life examples from experts in these research fields, especially when addressing what to avoid or pursue in future projects?

IGI Global's extensive collection of more than 750 teaching cases is now broken into specific subject areas. This month's spotlight is on the Security Technologies, Ethics, and Law teaching case collection. This subject area includes titles focusing on the role, impact, and effective use of technology within Cyber Warfare, Terrorism, Digital Crime, Forensics, Information Security and Privacy, and other essential topics.

The Security Technologies, Ethics, and Law teaching case collection is home to over 30 essential teaching cases, covering issues such as securing highly sensitive data, criminological research, spam detection, privacy law, and designing secure software. All cases vary in length, setting, industry, and theme. They are appropriate for upper-level education, primarily undergraduate/graduate (MBA or MIS) studies, and doctoral programs.
