IGI Global Contributor Given Australia’s Highest Honor

Dr. Adrian David Cheok Awarded Queen’s Birthday Honour on Behalf of Queen Elizabeth II

Hershey, PA – June 27, 2019 – Recently, a well-known IGI Global contributor, Dr. Adrian Cheok, from The Imagineering Institute, Malaysia, was awarded one of the Queen’s Birthday Honours, on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, for his “significant service to international education.”

Bestowed during the Queen’s birthday celebrations, on June 10th, 2019, this honour is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to society through their outstanding works. Nominees undergo a rigorous vetting process and are decided by the Council for the Order of Australia.

“Adrian is greatly deserving of this award. He is a distinguished scientist. His research in augmented reality and wearable computing was pivotal in providing the fundamental algorithms which provide the ability for front line troops in the Australian Armed Forces, as well as allied forces, to access enhanced battlefield information,” stated Senator Fraser Anning, the senator for Queensland, in his recent Pickering Post article.

Noted for advanced research in multisensory novel communication technologies and telexistence paradigms, Dr. Cheok currently is the Founder and Director of the Mixed Reality Lab located in Singapore, the Director of the Imagineering Institute, Malaysia, as well as the CEO of Nikola Telsa Technologies Corporation.

He is a Full Dr. Prospect at i-University Tokyo and a visiting professor at Raffles University, Malaysia and the University of Novi Sad-Serbia in Serbia. Additionally, within the academic h-index he is ranked in the top 0.5% within computer science, adding notion of his valuable research contributions.

“I have great passion for making new inventions that can affect, in positive ways, families, society, business, and the environment in the future,” stated Dr. Cheok regarding his recent accomplishment. Additionally, he continued to explain in an article featured in The Guardian: “I was awarded a [Queen’s Birthday Honour from the] Order of Australia based on my work as a computer scientist and electrical engineer who has made world-pioneering inventions in augmented and virtual reality, AI and robotics.”

About Dr. Adrian David Cheok:

Dr. Adrian David Cheok, who was born and raised in Adelaide, Australia, graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) with First Class Honors in 1992 and an Engineering PhD in 1998.

Dr. Cheok is the Director of the Imagineering Institute, Malaysia, Full Dr. Prospect at i-University Tokyo; Visiting Dr. at Raffles University, Malaysia; visiting professor at University of Novi Sad-Serbia, on Technical faculty “Mihailo Pupin”, Serbia; and the CEO of Nikola Tesla Technologies Corporation.

He is founder and director of the Mixed Reality Lab located in Singapore. He was formerly a professor of Pervasive Computing at University of London; a full professor at Keio University, Graduate School of Media Design; and associate professor in the National University of Singapore. He has previously worked in real-time systems, soft computing, and embedded computing in Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, Japan.

He has been working on research covering mixed reality, human-computer interfaces, wearable computers and ubiquitous computing, fuzzy systems, embedded systems, and power electronics. His current focus and research goals surround multisensory telecommunication and producing novel communication technologies and telexistence paradigms to allow a presence of all our five senses, as well as non-verbal and emotional communication through digital networks and the physical world of humans and devices/gadgets.
