Abstract
The complex history of Indigenous and colonizer relations in Australia has significantly impacted the terms of engagement between Indigenous peoples with libraries and archives. The library and archive sectors are now being challenged to be responsive to Indigenous calls for action for better representation and engagement with institutions and within collections. This chapter discusses developing and evaluating an Indigenous-led staff capability program designed to increase Indigenous representation and priorities in Australian libraries. By responding to the historical gaps of Indigenous perspectives and worldviews in library, archive, and information studies curriculum, the program provides learning opportunities for participants to activate support for Indigenous self-determination and sovereignty in libraries. The program aims to increase support for implementing protocols and practices that engage appropriately with racist and offensive legacy materials in library collections.
