Abstract

This chapter presents a connected content and language integrated learning (CLIL) research agenda that seeks to address and justify critical areas previously under-investigated in the field. By venturing beyond conventional boundaries, the authors advocate for a comprehensive exploration of CLIL, including investigating the principles underlying content-based foreign language programmes, involving a broader range of stakeholders in CLIL research, understanding CLIL across different types of education, examining foreign language learning beyond English, delving into CLIL programme and curriculum development, exploring the potential of technology-enhanced CLIL, focusing on CLIL research in non-Western countries and regions through comparative studies, establishing a localised research agenda that considers contextual factors, and enriching the methodological landscape of CLIL. Emphasising the significance of these interconnected areas, this chapter aims to redefine and enrich the CLIL research landscape, promoting inclusive and effective language learning practices for the future.
