Introduction:

The tourism sector, a longstanding driver of economic growth and cultural exchange, is undergoing transformative changes fueled by technological advancements, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI, as a potent tool, holds the promise of shaping the future of tourism through personalized and enhanced travel experiences. Notably, recommendation systems powered by machine learning algorithms have emerged as a key AI application in tourism. These systems analyze vast datasets encompassing user preferences, booking history, and online reviews, aiming to deliver tailored recommendations to travelers (Farahat, 2023).

The advent of AI has enabled the development of virtual travel assistants, including chatbots and voice assistants, transforming the way travelers access information. These intelligent assistants can swiftly and accurately furnish travelers with a spectrum of details, encompassing flight information, hotel reservations, local attractions, and even language translation (Bulchand-Gidumal, 2022).

AI plays a vital role in enhancing destination management processes through comprehensive data analysis, encompassing social media updates, weather patterns, and tourist movements. By employing AI-driven analytics, destinations can effectively manage crowds, predict tourist preferences, and tailor their offerings accordingly. This enables destinations to provide more personalized experiences while addressing challenges associated with overtourism (Moreno-Gil & Coca-Stefaniak, 2020; Grundner & Neuhofer, 2021).

Incorporating AI into destination management processes offers various potential benefits. Through the analysis of extensive data from sources like social media, weather forecasts, and tourist behaviors, AI provides destination managers with valuable insights. This data-driven approach enables informed decision-making regarding infrastructure development, resource allocation, marketing strategies, and the design of tourism products (Ivars-Baidal et al., 2019; Ferrer-Rosell et al., 2023).

Moreover, AI has the potential to improve the overall visitor experience by providing personalized recommendations and services (Hu & Li, 2023). By analyzing individual preferences, AI-driven systems can deliver tailored suggestions for attractions, accommodations, and activities aligned with each visitor's interests. This personalized approach enhances the immersive and satisfying nature of the experience, leading to increased visitor satisfaction and positive word-of-mouth promotion (Yoliando et al., 2023).

AI can play a crucial role in promoting sustainable tourism practices by analyzing environmental data and encouraging responsible tourism. By monitoring aspects such as energy consumption, waste management, and carbon emissions, AI systems provide valuable insights and recommendations for the implementation of sustainable practices. This aids destinations in minimizing their environmental footprint, safeguarding natural and cultural resources, and promoting the sustainable development of tourism (Tong et al., 2022; Ferrer-Rosell et al., 2023).

AI plays a vital role in recognizing evolving tourism trends and aiding the adjustment of destination management strategies (Mandić & Garbin Praničević, 2019). Through the analysis of extensive data from various sources like social media, online forums, travel blogs, and booking platforms, AI can reveal patterns, keywords, and sentiments indicating emerging tourism trends. This includes insights into new traveler preferences, emerging destinations, popular activities, and changing travel behaviors (Farahat et al., 2022).
