Abstract

This study discusses the questions of terrorism among the international communities. The threat of terrorism has affected international peace and security. Further, we have to study to elucidate the main roots of terrorism and how to save the world community from the danger of it. The study relied on the concept of collective security derived from the theory of bargaining and idealism to explain why states come together to fight terrorism. The authors use this method to search the result through empirical analyses. As a result of this study, the terrorist activities displaced the people and restricted sustainable development. The result also shows that due to the terrorist events, people suffered from many basic human rights. Thus, many parts of the world have been destabilised from the act of terrorism and are continually struggling to restore peace and security.

Introduction

Terrorism is seen as a usurper of human security in general, thus there is chaos among civilians after they are denied an access to security devices. The perpetrators of violence must be severely punished for crimes against humanity and it is the responsibility of human beings to restore the destroyed infrastructure and environment. As the environment degrades and changes due to human influence, new diseases arise and old diseases are lethal. It can be argued that terrorism highly affects the individual security and education of both adults and young. The continued killings and bombings leave people with no sense of pride in education as the fruits are not realised due to terrorism. The research study concludes that terrorism has negatively affected collective state efforts in maintaining international peace and security, especially in the period between 2000 and 2020. The research provides that terrorism has negatively affected collective state efforts in maintaining international peace and security especially from 2000 to 2020. These circumstances are very difficult to minimise as states are driven by individual interests rather than collaboration with world communities’ efforts. This study has analysed and examined the effects of terrorism on international peace and security. It is a qualitative study that works with multi-method and data triangulation methods to generate data regarding the studied phenomenon.

Terrorism is a phenomenon known to mankind for more than two millennia, but during this long period, no one has managed to define terrorism in a way that is universally acceptable and encompasses all the essential elements. Therefore, the frequently used word “terrorism” does not refer to a set of well-defined and identified factual events or to a widely accepted legal doctrine. The absence of a generic definition cannot invalidate the fact for several decades. Terrorism has been a serious security problem requiring both national and international countermeasures. The latter is particularly important since the main terrorist factions operate internationally to achieve greater visibility and, therefore, more success, but also to find supporters, namely states that sympathize with their objectives and policies. Relevant international countermeasures are naturally associated with the Security Council, to which States have conferred primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. The Security Council, a constantly watchful executive body, has considerable means at its disposal for this purpose, for a wide range, beginning with diplomatic or economic sanctions and ending with military measures. But before the Security Council can use these means, it must first determine whether terrorism falls within its jurisdiction.
