Abstract

This chapter explores the role of science communication in advancing science diplomacy in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region. It examines communication initiatives and collaborative approaches among LAC institutions through science diplomacy amidst challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and global environmental change (GEC). Case studies featuring organizations such as the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation from Panama (SENACYT), the Science Diplomacy Network in Latin America and the Caribbean (DiploCientifica), the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), Puerto Rico Science Policy Action Network (PRSPAN), and Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) highlight their efforts in disseminating science, technology, and innovation (STI). These organizations serve as intermediaries, translating scientific insights for decision-makers and facilitating connections between scientists, diplomats, policymakers, and society. By analyzing the organizations' missions, visions, and contributions, the chapter aims to identify key factors for effective scientific communication in science diplomacy and essential skills.
