Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) on accountability, transparency, and governance within higher education institutions. Employing a quantitative technique, a structured questionnaire was administered to a convenient sample of 190 academicians, collected via Google Forms from October to December 2023. Utilizing data filtering techniques, hypotheses testing was conducted using Smart-PLS, with both dependent and independent variables identified and analyzed. The findings reveal significant positive relationships between Accountability, Transparency, Governance, and Generative AI, supporting the study's hypotheses. The study underscores the transformative potential of AI integration in higher education, offering policy implications for technologists to implement responsible AI practices and maximize its benefits in governance, transparency, and accountability realms.

2. Theoretical Background And Hypotheses

(Heyder, Passlack, and Posegga 2023) explored the transformative potential of generative AI in reshaping accountability practices within higher education institutions. The paper delved into the capabilities of generative AI algorithms to analyze large datasets, detect patterns, and generate actionable insights that inform decision-making processes. Heyder et. al highlighted the role of generative AI in enhancing transparency through accessible data visualization and communication methods, while also discussing ethical considerations associated with AI deployment. (Dwivedi et al. 2023) examined the promise and perils of integrating AI technologies into governance structures within higher education. The paper discussed how generative AI can automate routine administrative tasks, optimize resource allocation, and facilitate informed decision-making processes. However, they also addressed ethical concerns related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the need for transparent and accountable AI systems.
