1.0 Introduction

Raw materials, seam technology, and applicable finishes are three critical components in the design and production of high-performance sports garments. The combination of these factors can make all the difference in creating sports garments that are not only comfortable but also durable, functional, and high-performing (Angelucci et al., 2021). Raw materials are the fundamental building blocks of sports garments, and their selection plays a critical role in determining the garment's properties, such as breathability, moisture-wicking, and durability. Meanwhile, seam technology is an essential aspect of sports garment design, ensuring that the garment fits well, is comfortable, and doesn't impede movement (Voyce et al., 2005). Applicable finishes, on the other hand, add an extra layer of functionality to sports garments, such as water repellence, UV protection, and anti-microbial properties. The importance of raw materials, seam technology, and applicable finishes in the production of sports garments cannot be overstated. With the increasing demand for high-performance sports garments, manufacturers are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to improve the performance and functionality of their products. As a result, the sports garment industry has seen significant advances in the areas of raw materials, seam technology, and applicable finishes over the years (Shishoo, 2015,Manshahia and Das, 2014). The purpose of this chapter is to provide a comprehensive overview of raw materials for sports garments, seam technology, and applicable finishes, as well as their importance in the sports garment industry. The chapter will cover the different types of raw materials used in sports garments, their properties, and their impact on sports garment design and performance. It will also explore different seam technologies used in sports garments, such as flatlock, overlock, and taped seams, and how they impact the fit and functionality of sports garments (Beaudette and Park, 2017). Additionally, the chapter will discuss the different applicable finishes used in sports garments, their benefits, and their impact on the performance and durability of sports garments. The scope of this chapter includes the latest trends and innovations in the sports garment industry, such as sustainable materials, smart fabrics, and 3D printing (Harifi and Montazer, 2017&Chakraborty and Biswas 2020). The chapter will highlight recent advancements in these areas, as well as potential areas for future research and development. The chapter aims to provide valuable insights into the world of sports garment manufacturing and help shed light on the critical role of raw materials, seam technology, and applicable finishes in creating high-performance sports garments (Subie et al., 2009 & Hibbert, R., 2015). By exploring the latest trends and innovations in sports garment manufacturing, the chapter aims to help manufacturers, designers, and consumers make informed decisions about the selection and production of sports garments.

Overall, this chapter will provide a comprehensive understanding of raw materials for sports garments, seam technology, and applicable finishes, as well as their impact on the performance and durability of sports garments. With the insights provided in this chapter, readers will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in creating high-performance sports garments, and make informed decisions about the selection and production of sports garments.
