Abstract

This chapter navigates the evolving landscape of green human resource management (GHRM), examining its conceptual nuances, key practices, and theoretical foundations. From the absence of a definitive definition to the strategic integration of environmental sustainability, GHRM emerges as a dynamic field aligning human resource strategies with ecological goals. Grounded in the ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) theory, the chapter delineates the strategic dimensions of GHRM practices, ranging from green recruitment to compensation management. In addition, this chapter explores the organizational theories applied to this research field. All in all, GHRM not only cultivates a green organizational culture but also emerges as a crucial contributor to global Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the indispensable role of human capital in shaping sustainable futures.

Conceptualizing Ghrm

This section is dedicated to elucidating the concept of GHRM. Notably, the literature underscores the absence of a definitive definition for this term (Bahuguna et al., 2023). Various definitions of GHRM have been proposed, reflecting its evolving conceptualization in recent years(Amrutha & Geetha, 2020) over the past few years. Table 1 provides an overview of the diverse definitions attributed to the term.
