Abstract

This study explores how Apple's Vision Pro can boost travel experiences using augmented reality (AR). As many people seek engaging, immersive travel, AR technology opens up fresh possibilities. It can enhance the tourism sector by engaging visitors and providing a new approach to viewing the destination virtually. Tourism stakeholders can use Apple's superior AR (Vision Pro) to create unique experiences to attract travellers and create demand for the destination. This paper aims to highlight and explore Apple Vision Pro by analysing its key characteristics and capabilities. Specifically, this paper will discuss how this augmented reality platform could potentially enhance tourism experiences and its effects on tourist satisfaction. To conduct this study, the qualitative approach method is used, and a literature review is conducted using peer-reviewed articles. Apart from VR and AR technology, this paper also discussed the latest trends that are providing benefits to the tourism sector.

Research Methodology:

This qualitative review approaches the overall theme of the good and bad side of AR technology taking a particular focus on Apple Vision Pro to get the reader to reflect on whether these technologies can be employed in a positive manner or vice versa.

The review methodology includes extensive amount of reading, analysing existing studies, reports, and scholarly articles about AR technology and Apple’s contribution specifically, by engaging in a detailed literature review at a macro level. To increase the scope of reading papers on AR technology and Apple’s contribution to it, diverse sources such as academic journals, conference proceedings, technical reports, grey literatures, online databases and news portals were thoroughly investigated and finally, the findings were systematised and utilised. The literature review stands upon a balanced base of both peer-reviewed research and grey literature because these 2 different kinds of literature might provide different findings towards the same research topic.

In terms of method, the initially raised question was the main focus of this research, but the language used in the final result might not be identical to what has been read in other papers to communicate with the humans behind them. For instance, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, and Google Scholar were used in this case to search relevant papers on this broad topic using keywords such as “augmented reality” (referred to as AR), “AR technology”, Apple Vision Pro”, “limitations”, “challenges”, “benefits” and others.
