From the Rule of Law to the Sustainable Rule of Law: What? Why? and How?

Abstract

The rule of law is one of the key concepts of modern democratic governance. Just like the country's strong and sustainable democracy, the country's strong and sustainable rule of law is a question that has been raised and tried to answer widely and for a long time on how to make it happen. To answer these questions with empirical data, this paper synthesizes documents in the Scopus database published from 2013 to the present and highlights how current knowledge answers these questions: 1) What is the rule of law? 2) Why should the country be governed by the rule of law? 3) What are the strength and weakness of a country's rule of law? 4) Do countries with different levels of development have different levels of adherence to the rule of law? And lastly, 5) How can the country move towards a sustainable rule of law and preserve it in perpetuity? The answer to each question is explained and discussed accordingly.
