1. Introduction To Ai In Hrm

The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Human Resource Management (HRM) signifies a revolutionary shift in how organizations manage their most valuable asset – their people. AI in HRM represents the convergence of technological innovation with traditional human-centric processes, redefining the landscape of workforce management, talent acquisition, and employee engagement. The integration of AI into HRM practices is more than just an advancement in technology; it is a paradigm shift that challenges conventional HR methodologies and offers new opportunities for organizational growth and efficiency. This integration is particularly transformative in the dynamic and culturally rich Asian business environment, where diversity and technological progress coexist.

AI in HRM encompasses a wide range of applications, from automating mundane tasks to providing strategic insights through advanced data analytics. The impact of AI on HRM is multifaceted, offering organizations the tools to make more informed decisions, enhance employee experiences, and foster a more agile and responsive workforce. In the Asian context, the application of AI in HRM is especially pertinent given the region's rapid economic growth, cultural diversity, and evolving labor market dynamics. The adoption of AI in HRM practices in Asia is not merely a trend but a necessary response to the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the region's distinct business milieu. Today, business rivalry is highly intense, and the business milieu is highly uncertain (Rafiq et al., 2023b), making the role of AI even more crucial. Several studies have highlighted the importance of leadership in navigating this complex environment (Farrukh et al., 2023), where education plays a pivotal role in enhancing an individual’s self-efficacy (Farrukh et al., 2021), thereby empowering them to effectively harness AI for strategic advantage.

The integration of AI in HRM in Asia offers a unique perspective on how technology can be leveraged to address specific regional needs. It represents an exciting frontier where traditional practices are being transformed by AI's ability to process vast amounts of data, provide predictive insights, and foster a more inclusive and engaging workplace environment. This evolution is crucial for Asian organizations aiming to stay competitive in a globalized economy, where talent management and organizational agility are key drivers of success. As such, understanding the role of AI in HRM within the Asian context provides valuable insights into the future of work and the ongoing transformation of HR practices globally.

1.1. AI Emergence and Evolution in HRM

The emergence and evolution of AI in HRM is a story of technological progression meeting human-centric management. Initially, AI's role in HRM was limited to automating simple tasks like resume screening and employee scheduling. However, as AI technologies evolved, their applications in HRM expanded, encompassing more complex functions such as talent analytics, predictive modeling for employee turnover, and personalized training programs. This evolution marked a significant transition from traditional HR practices, heavily reliant on manual processes and intuition-based decision-making, to a more data-driven, analytical approach.

In Asia, the adoption of AI in HRM has been accelerated by the region's rapid technological advancements and the growing need to manage diverse and expanding workforces effectively. Countries like China, Japan, and South Korea have been at the forefront of integrating AI into HRM, leveraging technology to navigate the challenges of a dynamic labor market. This evolution has been characterized by a shift from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more personalized, employee-centric model, where AI-driven insights enable HR professionals to cater to individual employee needs and aspirations, thereby enhancing overall organizational effectiveness (Eubanks, 2022). With the rapid development of industrialization, transportation, and urbanization (Aman et al., 2022; Haba et al., 2023), maintaining high calibre employees has become a difficult issue for today’s businesses (Rafiq et al., 2022). In response, organizational researchers focused on human resource management (HRM) often grapple with securing a competitive advantage in this fast-paced environment (Aman et al., 2023), increasingly relying on advanced AI tools to manage and retain talent effectively.
