A lot of time is devoted to the study of a professional foreign language in the educational programs of agricultural universities. The purpose of this chapter is a theoretical description of the practical experience of teaching ESP writing to future architects of an agricultural university. The novelty of the work is to describe the Ukrainian experience of teaching writing in a specialized foreign language at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Agricultural University based on scientific sources and existing programs.

Introduction

Architecture is one of the fundamental and promising specialities of a modern agricultural university. It is impossible to imagine the study of world experience in this area without ESP since the advanced design literature is written in English. Writing, as a skill that involves all the senses, is a fundamental means of teaching future architects in a foreign language class. A lot of time is devoted to the study of a professional foreign language in the educational programs of agricultural universities. This is due to the demand for specialists in the labour market with knowledge of a foreign language. There is a special need for them. When learning during the educational process, certain difficulties arise, without the elimination of which it is impossible to achieve a sufficiently high level of professionally oriented knowledge of a foreign language. Teaching a foreign language in a Ukrainian non-linguistic university is carried out in the first two years in parallel with other subjects related to the block of social, humanitarian and natural sciences. General professional and special disciplines are studied more deeply in the following undergraduate and graduate courses. A foreign language of a specialized orientation in an agricultural university is studied in the first year of the bachelor’s and in the first year of the master's degree, gradually improving and becoming more difficult for students to master. A professional foreign language must be developed by mastering specialized vocabulary, the knowledge of which is unthinkable without such a serious learning tool as writing. It is written work that contributes to memorization and high-quality mastery of professional vocabulary. Future specialists in the field of architecture also acquire the necessary professional skills through writing. When mastering a specialized foreign language through writing, especially typical and practically significant texts on architecture and construction are taken from open sources on the Internet. As a rule, these are dialogues, interviews, newspaper and magazine articles for non-specialists of an agricultural university and articles from scientific journals, encyclopedias, instructions, descriptions of drawings and graphs.

The purpose of this chapter is a theoretical description of the practical experience of teaching ESP Writing to future architects of an agricultural university.

The following tasks are set during the study:

• To highlight the main directions for the development of writing skills for further application in professional activities based on existing programs and scientific sources;

• To find out the mistakes of students in the course of studying specialized texts on architecture and highlight the main features.

The novelty of the work is to describe the Ukrainian experience of teaching writing in a specialized foreign language at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Agricultural University based on scientific sources and existing programs.

Methodology. This study is an analysis of the literature and practical results for several years from 2017 to 2023 which made it possible to summarize a significant amount of practical information. During the preparation of the chapter, the following methods were used: analysis, synthesis, the philosophical method of generalization and the method of a systematic approach. The comparative tables are compiled. Also, the errors were analyzed and figures were drawn showing the problems of students. The author of this study compiled a questionnaire to find out opinions about the impact of writing on the process of memorizing specialized vocabulary and mastering grammatical material for further application in the professional work of architects.
