Introduction

The discussion worldwide, about empowering women and supporting their leadership roles has been gaining momentum in times. This trend reflects a growing recognition of the role women play in shaping societies and economies. Despite strides made towards gender equality in the century, there are still disparities that persist highlighting the ongoing need to empower women and encourage their leadership.

Looking back at the history of the women’s movement from the 1800s to 1900s it set the groundwork for advocating women’s rights and challenging established gender norms. Key milestones like the adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in 1979 and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 1995 have efforts towards gender equality and empowering women on a global scale.

Nevertheless, women encounter obstacles to assuming leadership roles due to practices, cultural prejudices, and structural inequities. Despite comprising half of the world’s population women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions across sectors limiting their impact and opportunities, for progress. The importance of women’s involvement and leadership, in decision-making processes is highlighted by studies that show the effects of gender diversity on how well organizations perform and the outcomes for society (Martinez-Jimenez et al., 2020). Having leadership teams is linked to decision-making, innovation, and financial success demonstrating the significance of women’s viewpoints and contributions (Messiou, 2019). Additionally, women’s leadership is identified by qualities like empathy, teamwork, and strength in adversity. These traits are now seen as crucial for tackling issues and promoting progress (Wang et al., 2021). Leadership that embraces inclusivity mirroring societal diversity promotes trustworthiness, credibility, and social unity. This enhances the effectiveness of governance structures and public entities (World Bank, 2019).

It's vital, for achieving a sustainable development path (UN Women, 2020). By enabling women leaders to reach their potential societies can access a reserve of talent, creativity, and expertise. This drives advancement across aspects of society (World Economic Forum, 2020). The chapter aims to delve into the aspects of empowering and leading women highlighting the importance of education, mentorship, and skill development, in enhancing women’s leadership skills. Through the analysis of studies, real-life examples, and effective strategies we strive to offer advice and suggestions, for promoting gender equality and women’s leadership in today’s world.
