Abstract

During women's reproductive years, many women experience primary dysmenorrhea (PD), a prevalent gynaecological disorder. While pharmacological treatments are used to address the symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea, interest in non-pharmacological methods, notably physiotherapy techniques, has developed. The purpose of this narrative review is to determine whether physical therapy techniques are useful in treating primary dysmenorrhea. To find pertinent papers, a thorough literature search in several databases was performed. Exercises for therapeutic purposes, physical activity, acupuncture, and complementary medical techniques were among the therapies studied in the literature. To determine the genuine efficacy and optimise the application of PT approaches in controlling PD, research with larger sample numbers and rigorous methodologies is required. This chapter as a whole emphasizes the potential advantages of non-pharmacological therapies, providing safer substitutes and a comprehensive strategy to enhance the wellbeing of people with primary dysmenorrhea.
