2. Understanding Ir 4.0 In Petrochemical Sector

2.1 Definition and Characteristics of IR 4.0

IR 4.0 is the next phase in the digitization of the manufacturing sector, driven by disruptive trends such as the rise of data and connectivity, analytics and intelligence, human-machine interaction, and improvements in robotics. It builds upon the digital revolution (IR 3), which was marked by the wide application of computers, the Internet, and other electronic technologies (Boer, 2022).
