Abstract

This chapter delves into the intersection of occupational therapy and AI assistive technologies from a comprehensive review perspective scoped for dementia. The need for academic exploration is identified to bridge the gap between conventional practices and modern advancements. The importance of addressing dementia as a global health challenge is highlighted due to population aging and increased life expectancy. Despite the potential of AI-enhanced occupational therapy, the journey towards Healthcare 5.0 faces challenges, including regulatory obstacles and limited resources in low to middle-income countries. Collaborative efforts are crucial to overcoming obstacles and fostering an environment conducive to assistive technological advancement. The chapter concludes by showcasing a success story in the Central American and Caribbean region, underscoring the importance of collaboration for a more inclusive future.
