Abstract

Pure water scarcity is global concern. Waste materials without treatment are dumped into water systems. Lots of health effects in human beings are reported due to only drinking of impure and contaminated water. Various materials and technologies have been applied for removal of these materials and contaminates from water system. Synthetic and natural materials are highly efficient for removal of these contaminates from water system to control the water pollution. Conventional and nonconventional techniques are effectively applied for the treatment of water. Type of material plays a key role for removal of contaminates from water system. In this respect, carbon-based materials are very effective for these contaminates. Nano and bulk both types of materials have been applied for reducing water pollution. The aim of this chapter is to summarize the data of carbon-based materials and techniques which are applied for water treatment. Furthermore, these materials have been used for removal of other toxic contaminates from the water system.
