Abstract

In the present-day scenario, computing is migrating from the on-premises server to the cloud server and now, progressively from the cloud to Edge server where the data is gathered from the origin point. So, the clear objective is to support the execution and unwavering quality of applications and benefits, and decrease the cost of running them, by shortening the separation information needs to travel, subsequently alleviating transmission capacity and inactivity issues. This chapter provides an insight of how the internet of things (IoT) connects with edge computing.

Basic Structure Of Internet Of Things

Processing of this much amount of data is one of the challenging parts. In IoT the cloud computing is one of the major backbones, but due to uncontrolled data flow it requires some intelligent service. One of the evolving technologies to speed-up the procedure is the Edge Computing. The basic differences between cloud and Edge computing is that, in cloud the processing of data done in a centralized manner. As shown in the Figure 1 the device generated data are taken directly in cloud and processed and the output is sent back to the actuator. Where is Edge computing as shown in Figure 2, the data are pushed, collected and analyzed near the IoT devices.

Why We Need Edge Computing?

To answer the question of why we need again a new Edge computing is listed in Figure 3. The three main reasons of why we prefer Edge computing.
