Abstract

Nanoscale semiconductor particles known as quantum dots have distinct electrical and optical characteristics. Quantum dots (QDs) show remarkable promise in the solar energy arena for enhancing solar cell performance. Their adjustable bandgap maximizes the use of the solar spectrum and raises the overall efficiency of energy conversion. As they provide adjustable emission colours, QDs are also essential to the advancement of energy-efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs). QDs also improve thermoelectric materials, which makes it possible to convert waste heat into energy more effectively. In order to increase charge/discharge rates, energy density, and cycle life overall, quantum dots are being investigated for use in batteries and capacitors. The potential of quantum dots in supercapacitors is also examined in this article. Furthermore, their integration into smart windows offers a creative way to control interior temperatures and lessen the need for artificial lighting, which supports the construction of energy-efficient buildings.
