Abstract

The machine learning-based internet of medical things (IoMT) has recently gained traction in the healthcare industry because of its ability to reduce costs while simultaneously improving care quality through real-time and continuous monitoring. The advent of cutting-edge technologies has sparked a surge in interest in and demand for a more sophisticated healthcare delivery system. The chapter also shows software integration designs that are extremely important for the creation of smart healthcare systems. The developed systems are discussed in terms of their contributions, working procedures, results, and comparative merits and limits, all of which are included in the explanations. Existing system flaws and new framework introduction strategies are discussed, as well as current research difficulties and potential future paths. The goal is to give readers a thorough understanding of the most current advancements in the field of smart healthcare systems.

Introduction

People are finding it increasingly challenging to access information of high quality and significant value as a result of the enormous expansion of information available online Nasr et al. (2021). As an effective information filtering tool that can assist consumers in coping with information overload, recommendation systems have seen widespread use in a variety of areas, including e-commerce, film, music, and news, amongst others Calvaresi et al. (2017). Using recommendation techniques to understand user requirements from huge amounts of user activity data, a recommendation system has the potential to successfully deliver individualized recommendations to users. At the moment, there are three main ways to make recommendations: collaborative filtering, content-based filtering, and hybrid filtering Charulatha A. et al (2020).

As a result of the rapid growth of modern civilization and the significant improvement in people's living conditions, the topic of health has attracted an increasing amount of attention from people all over the world. More and more people today are interested in leading a healthy lifestyle and keeping their bodies in a healthy state. According to the contemporary conception of health, being disease-free is no longer the only criterion for being healthy. The World Health Organization (WHO) describes “health” as a state that encompasses total mental, physical, and social well-being Patton M. et al. (2015). People who take care of their health can expect to live longer, and this has a direct bearing not just on the quality of life they enjoy but also on the amount of professional success they find themselves capable of achieving. At this time, non-communicable diseases are the primary causes of death that put a strain on human health. Non-communicable diseases account for more than 63 percent of all deaths worldwide, with heart disease, cancer, chronic lung diseases, diabetes, and others being the most common. Occupational, environmental, nutritional, and lifestyle variables are the primary contributors to the development of these disorders. In general, it is possible to avoid the majority of the problems caused. Alterations in one's pattern of behavior can also be an effective means of bettering one's health Baker et al. (2017).

When it comes to eating, more and more individuals are opting for organic and healthier options. Additionally, there has been an increase in the frequency of various health checkups as well as physical activities Rghioui et al. (2018). People are unable to live healthy lives and frequently make decisions that negatively impact both their physical and mental health because of factors such as their hectic work schedules, unhealthy habits, inadequate health awareness, unclear health-related knowledge, and a variety of other factors. Although different people have different ideas about what constitutes a balanced life, it is a widely held belief that the most important aspects of maintaining one's health are maintaining an optimistic mood, eating good food, and exercising on a regular basis. This is despite the fact that different people have different ideas about what constitutes a healthy lifestyle. Clearly, needs and standards pertaining to one's health change, depending on one's age as well as gender. The ideal state of health that each person strives for is likewise unique to them as an individual. So, one of the biggest challenges is figuring out how to give people advice that is both scientific and personalized, so that it fits their needs and helps them promote, maintain, and improve their current state of health Zhu et al. (2019).
